CD Review: Sergio Pereira - Swingdando.

(Review by Steve T)
One of the good things about this job is that, just when you're deciding which of your Brazilian regulars to buy an album by to allay any guilt you may have that you don't even watch the Olympics, let alone partake of any fitness regime, Lance slaps an album in your hand.
Seven originals from Brazil via the Netherlands, New York and back to Brazil from guitarist Sergio Peireira on his debut album.
Album opener Chega Al sets out his stall with an extended drums/percussion intro which never really lets up throughout this short album. They're joined by his own acoustic guitar, which he sticks with on all but one track where he doubles up on electric (semi-acoustic), and by group scatting in that specifically Brazilian style my limited knowledge associates with Tania Maria but I know it's more widespread.
There's some terrific interplay between acoustic guitar and Helio Alves on piano and singer Claudia Villela takes just one track, My Girlssuggesting to me that there may be a solo album on the way.
Some of it's laid back and some is horizontal but anyone who likes Latin music, smooth Jazz or piano Jazz will soak it up.
However, it's at its best when he's playing acoustic guitar, inevitably reminding me of Earl Klugh playing opposite Benson, particularly when he takes over from Marcus Teixeira’s electric solo for the fade of Leblonand during the exchange between the two on the title track.
It's out now and. if you're looking for something to get you in the mood, will do nicely.
