Sage Gateshead: Sisters of Swing, Barber and Major Miller

(Previews by Russell)
Tonight (December 1) at Sage Gateshead Laura Adams and the Paul James Band pay tribute to the Great American Songbook. Vocalist Adams, and bandleader and bassist Paul James, enjoy a high reputation at prestigious venues throughout the region and beyond as a polished, professional act whatever the occasion. In Sage Two (it’s going to be a full house – be quick, telephone the ticket office 0191 433 4661) at eight o’clock Adams, James and the band will present Sisters of Swing, a salute to the women who put the Great American Songbook on the map. And, the evening’s entertainment will raise a bucket full of money for Macmillan Cancer Nurses.

A week tonight – Thursday 8 December – the indefatigable Chris Barber will take to Sage Two’s stage with his Big Chris Barber Band. Now in his eighties, Barber packs
out concert halls throughout Europe and this Gateshead date will be no different. To guarantee a ticket – very few remain! – telephone the ticket office right now. Barber works with a first-rate band, his commitment to the music sincere and puts on a great show.

At the end of the month watch the skies…Major Glenn Miller will be parachuting into Sage Gateshead! Yes, Ray McVay, a Miller enthusiast for sure, brings his big band up north for another matinee performance in Sage One. The spirit of Miller lives on. Last year’s Gateshead concert featured vocalists Colin Anthony and Catherine Sykes. They return alongside McVay and his orchestra. Post-Christmas and you want to get out and about? Right, Friday 30 December, Sage Gateshead, three o’clock start. AEF uniform, civvies, whatever you fancy – you’re on patrol…American Patrol.
Russell.
